Resolutions for the Soul

How often has the New Year arrived and, with it, you suddenly feel NOW is the time to make a change?

For many of us, this desire for change comes in the form of a return to fitness, a desire to lose weight, or some other kind of change in our appearance.

I get it; I’ve been here too… many times.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to improve ourselves. But it is important to recognize where that desire to improve comes from. More often than not, it comes from a space of wanting to ‘feel’ different more than a true desire to look different.

Why is it that these repeated New Year’s resolutions start off well, only to fizzle out by about mid to late February?

Simply because we are not addressing the real need. Rather than looking into what we are longing for at the core of who we are, we slap surface-level resolutions on our calendar and pray that will bring us the satisfaction we lack.

So this year, before diving headlong into a bunch of new resolutions, I invite you to take a few moments and identify the underlying ‘feeling’ you are searching for.

Here are some common hidden motivations for our New Year's resolutions:

* To be more confident.

* To feel happier.

* To achieve fulfilment.

* To have more presence.

* To be at peace.

If we can identify the feeling we are longing after, we can then take the necessary steps to make resolutions to feed that feeling, rather than waste our time on ones that put a bandaid on our much deeper desires.

In essence, we can create resolutions that feed our soul.

As you begin this year, take some time to soul search. Journal about what feelings you want to encompass in the first year of this brand new decade. 2020 is an accession year. We will all receive new boosts in our vibration levels, and the cosmic energy is inspiring us to move towards new spiritual heights and true soul alignment.

Once you identify your feelings, make these your new ‘soul resolutions’ and take one small step every single day to bring this feeling into your body, mind, and soul.

Here is an example of one of my own ‘soul resolutions’: This year I want to feel fulfilment.

Rituals to Bring me into The Feeling of Fulfilment

1. Take at least three pauses from thinking each day

  • Closing the eyes, breathe in fully through the nose and out through the mouth, three times.

  • Continue regular breathing through the nose and feel yourself at a level beyond the mind. Observe the consciousness that is present. Connect to who you truly are.

  • This simple act will feed the feeling of fulfilment, peace, happiness, presence, and so many more of the qualities we are wishing to encompass

2) Make time to connect with nature

  • Nature heals us, even if we aren’t aware of the healing as it takes place. For myself, I love walking in the woods with my dog. A 20-minute walk makes all the difference in my energy levels and my ability to be present. This time in nature gives me the feeling of fulfilment.

Even though these two simple rituals are fairly easy, they are powerful. Doing these rituals every single day will feed your soul on a deep level.

The more we pause and connect on the inside, the more we release stress and overactive thinking and, instead, become filled with an inner knowing that is untouchable.

This year, decide to connect with you and with who you truly are on the deepest level. Trust that, as my teacher Yogi Bhajan said, you are Bountiful, Blissful, and Beautiful.

Wishing you a beautiful, FEELING, and fulfilled 2020.

With Love,

Carol Anne Baxter
